Introduction

Welcome to Screen Ruler Online ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our website and services (the "Service", including our ruler, protractor, spinner and related tools). Our Service is designed for simplicity and privacy: we do not collect any personally identifiable information (PII). We use Google Analytics to gather anonymous, aggregated usage statistics, as described below.

Information We Do Not Collect

We do not directly collect, store, or process any personally identifiable information (PII) from our users. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Your name, email address, or physical address.
  • Any account credentials or sign-in information — we have no accounts.
  • The contents of your measurements, calibrations, or spinner entries. These never leave your browser.
  • Any usage data that could be tied back to you as an individual (see the Third-Party Services section below for how we use aggregated analytics).

How We Use Local Storage

To enhance your experience, our Service uses your browser's local storage to save specific settings. This data is stored only on your own device and is not transmitted to our servers or any third party. We use local storage for:

  • Calibration Data: To save your screen's PPI (Pixels Per Inch) calibration, so you don't have to recalibrate every time you visit.
  • Language Preferences: To remember your chosen language for the user interface.
  • UI Preferences: To save settings like dark mode/light mode preference.

You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's cache and site data.

Third-Party Services

We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage of our tools — for example, how many visitors use the ruler vs. the protractor, which device types are most common, and which pages are visited. Google Analytics may collect information such as your approximate location (based on IP, which is anonymized), browser type, device category, and pages viewed. This data is aggregated and cannot be used to identify you as an individual.

We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, remarketing, or cross-site tracking. You can opt out of Google Analytics at any time by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by enabling "Do Not Track" in your browser.

We may display advertisements through Google AdSense when it is enabled. AdSense and its partners may use cookies to serve relevant ads; you can learn more at Google's Advertising Policies.

Consent Management and Consent Mode

We use Google's IAB TCF v2.2-certified Consent Management Platform to comply with EU, UK, Swiss, and California privacy laws. When you visit our Service from these regions, you will see a banner asking for your consent to personalized ads and analytics. You can accept, refuse, or manage individual options at any time.

If you refuse consent, we use Google's Consent Mode v2 to send only anonymous, cookie-less measurement pings to Google Analytics. We still see aggregate traffic patterns, but no personalized cookies are set, no cross-site tracking occurs, and no personal data is collected or processed.

You can change your consent choice anytime by clicking the privacy options link in the banner, or by clearing cookies and reloading the page.

Your Rights Under GDPR (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Access — know what personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restriction of processing under certain circumstances.
  • Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.

Because we do not collect any personally identifiable information, most of these rights cannot result in any data action on our end — we have nothing to access, correct, or erase. For data processed by Google Analytics or Google AdSense, please use the consent banner to manage your preferences, or contact those providers directly.

The legal basis for our limited data processing is legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) for aggregate analytics, and your explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) for personalized advertising.

If you believe your rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

  • Right to know what categories of personal information are collected, sold, or shared.
  • Right to delete your personal information, where applicable.
  • Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information.
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights.

We do not directly collect, sell, or share personal information. Google AdSense and Google Analytics may process personal information (e.g., IP address, device identifiers) for advertising. California visitors will see a banner with a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" option to opt out.

This Privacy Policy also serves as our Notice at Collection under California law.

Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed to anyone under the age of 13. Since we do not collect any personal data, we do not knowingly have information about any user's age.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
