Is the Spinner Truly Random?
Yes. The spinner uses JavaScript's built-in pseudo-random number generator (Math.random) to determine the final position. Each option has an equal chance of being selected. The spin animation is purely visual — the result is determined at the moment you click 'Spin', and the animation plays out to land on that predetermined result. This ensures fairness while providing an engaging visual experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the random spinner actually random?
- Yes — the spinner uses your browser's built-in Math.random(), which generates pseudo-random numbers suitable for everyday decisions, classroom picks, and games. It is not cryptographically random, so do not use it for security-sensitive decisions (lottery drawings, legal raffles, etc.), but for picking a restaurant or a student, it is more than fair.
- Can I save my list of options?
- Your current list stays in place as long as the page is open. If you reload the page, the list resets to defaults. For longer-term lists, copy your options to a document or paste them into the Bulk input box next time — any text with one option per line will be turned into wheel slices instantly.
- How many options can the wheel handle?
- The wheel works smoothly up to about 100 options. Beyond that, slices get too narrow to read and the animation slows. For very long lists (class rosters, tournament brackets), consider running the spinner multiple times to narrow down, or splitting into groups.
- Can I weight some options more than others?
- Weighting isn't built in, but you can add the same option multiple times to increase its chance. If you want Option A to be twice as likely as Option B, add A twice and B once. The wheel treats each entry as one slice with equal probability.
- Does the spinner track my choices?
- The history panel shows your recent spins during the session so you can see what came up before. History clears when you reload the page. Nothing is sent to a server — all spin logic runs locally in your browser and we store no choice data.
- What's the difference between the spinner, a coin flip, and a dice roll?
- A coin flip is a two-way random choice, a dice roll is six (or more), and the spinner handles any number of custom options with labels. Use the spinner when your choices are named things (restaurants, students, chores) rather than abstract numbers or outcomes.
